SCOTTISH NATIONAL JAZZ ORCHESTRA Ltd is a not-for-profit arts organisation dedicated to jazz. With the world-renowned Scottish National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO), the Scottish National Youth Jazz Orchestra (TSYJO), and a comprehensive array of guest artists, the SCOTTISH NATIONAL JAZZ ORCHESTRA Ltd advances a unique vision for the continued development of the art of jazz by producing a year-round schedule of performance, education, and broadcast events for audiences of all ages. The SNJO personnel includes Artistic Director & Saxophonist: TOMMY SMITH; Trumpets: RYAN QUIGLEY, RICHARD ILES, TOM MACNIVEN, CAMERON JAY; Trombones: CHRIS GREIVE, PHIL O'MALLEY, MICHAEL OWERS, LORNA MCDONALD; Reeds: MARTIN KERSHAW, PAUL TOWNDROW, KONRAD WIZSNIESKI, BILL FLEMING; Piano: STEVE HAMILTON; Bass: CALUM GOURLAY; and Drums: ALYN COSKER.

The Scottish National Jazz Orchestra's ideology is about the celebration of great big band jazz music; unexplored and traditional, universal and native, emphatic and reflective, played by the finest musicians who have matured in the Scottish jazz scene.

Our aims are to produce and present world class, well-rehearsed performances involving the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, its youth orchestra, visiting artists and soloists. To reach and develop a greater and wider audience for jazz by a planned and targeted process, which involves programming, education and marketing. To develop the youth wing, and to continue to provide access for talented young jazz musicians to participate in performing in a youth jazz orchestra with their peers. To record, facilitate, promote and release SNJO recordings both new and archived on CD and DVD formats throughout the world. To develop and expand the SNJO administration in relation to Artistic Director, Financial Director, Concert Administrator, Fund Raiser, Roadie, Sound & Technical Engineer, Team Assistant/Librarian, Marketing & Creative Services, Audience Developer, Public Relations. To continue to train young musicians through the ‘SNJO Masterworks’ programme in the study of jazz music in schools throughout the Scottish local authorities and foster the engagement and development of listeners of all ages who wish to appreciate and understand the art of jazz.
